Virtual Locomotive Roster for Friday 26th to Sunday 28th June and Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rd July 2020

In 2020 this coming weekend was earmarked for the return of the Diesel Gala after an absence of 6 years, although we had diesels at our 50th Anniversary celebrations and at our Mixed Traffic Gala in 2019.

So we take a trip back this week to 2014 when we hosted the last Diesel Gala and welcomed three guest locomotives plus one returnee after many years of toil by it’s owner, Ben Wade, to return it to action. So our virtual lineup this weekend will be

Class 25 no. D5217 – owned by Nemisis Rail and currently under restoration

Class 33 no. 33 035 – owned by the Pioneer Diesel Loco Group, is normally based at the Ecclesbourne Valley Line in Derbyshire.

Class 31 no. D5830 – owned by Type One Loco Ltd and based at the Great Central Railway

Virtual Locomotive Roster for Weekend 13th & 14th June and weekdays 17th -19th June 2020

Our time travel this week takes us back to 2014. Just like last week, there was no vintage train service on Sunday in 2014 when MR 4F 0-6-0 43924, hauling a Father’s Day luncheon service, joined USATC S160 2-8-0 5820. Our imaginations have to stretch a little further as this year Taff Vale Class O2 0-6-2T no. 85 would have been the preferred locomotive for our vintage trains but six years ago was still a kit of parts in Haworth Locomotive Works.

The mainstay of this weekend’s virtual steam service will be USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 and the diesel turn will have our Class 101 Diesel Multiple Unit running the services with the first train leaving Haworth at 09.00 on Saturday. On Sunday 5820 will be joined by LNWR 0-6-2 ‘Coal Tank’ no. 1054 hauling the vintage train service comprising coaches from the late 19th and early 20th centuries belonging to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Trust and Vintage Carriages Trust.

The virtual Wednesday – Friday service, just as in 2014, will have 5820 continuing on from it’s weekend duties.

This week our virtual roster takes us, once again, back to 2014, when not only was it the occasion of the Haworth 1940s weekend but also a special occasion when, on Saturday 17th May, Haworth Locomotive Works was witness to a ceremony of thanksgiving for the restoration of wartime locomotives WD 2-8-0 90733 from the UK, once more named for the day ‘Remembrance – less we forget’, and USTAC 2-8-0 5820 from the USA.

With last weekend’s celebration of the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, it is poignant to remember our ceremony of 6 years ago, a day also celebrating the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. The Liturgy and ‘Blessing’ was given by the Reverend Peter Mayo-Smith, Rector of Haworth and Psalm 121 was read by Andrew Simkins from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Preservation Society.

On Saturday Class 37 37 075 will be in virtual action, taking locomotive hauled stock in place of the scheduled Class 101 on the morning diesel service.

Virtual Locomotive Roster for Bank Holiday Weekend 8th – 10th May and Mid-week 13th May 2020

This week we take our virtual weekend back to 2018. Due to VE Day celebrations on the 8th May taking place across the UK, we will be operating a virtual Blue timetable on each day, so it will be steam locomotives on all trains, Friday and Sunday and an early morning diesel service on Saturday, with steam for the rest of the day. The steam services will be in the hands of S160 5820 being joined by MR 4F 43924.

The Saturday morning diesel railcar service will operate with the Class 101 diesel multiple unit. This week sees the virtual return of the Wednesday Diesel Railcar service on 13th May.

April is nearly over and for the last weekend of the month we are back to 2018 when USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 hauled the final steam services of April on Saturday and Sunday with the Class 101 diesel multiple unit providing the early service on Saturday morning and the early morning service and spare paths between steam trains on Sunday.

Virtual Locomotive Roster for Mid-Week 6th – 9th April & Good Friday 2020

The virtual weekend with ‘City of Wells’ was a great success in the Spring sunshine. Now we enter Easter fortnight with a whole week of virtual passenger trains. For the weekend we time-warped back to 2015. For the weekday running and Good Friday its back one more year, to 2014 when three locomotives share duties.

The weekday service is in the hands of 43924 and, after returning from overhaul, earlier in the year in a pseudo-BR black livery as 95820, Good Friday sees ‘Big Jim’ re-appear in its newly applied authentic grey USATC livery together with a miraculously overhauled WD 90733. And if that was not enough, the morning diesel service will see the railbus replaced by diesel locomotive haulage.
